Exceptional Systems

History

Exceptional Systems was set up by Stewart Bowman in 2001 following an IT career during which he worked in senior development and management roles for General Accident Insurance (now part of Aviva) and IBM (UK).

During this period, Stewart developed expertise in the then-emerging project planning and control function, implementing processes and tools to elaborate and support IBM's IT Process Model.

Exceptional Systems initially focussed on IT project management, setting up and running projects for major public sector organisations in Scotland, including NHS Scotland, City of Edinburgh Council, Scottish Enterprise and Business Gateway.

Growing demand for greater control over IT projects, supported by the increasing adoption of PRINCE2, opened up wider opportunities for the company in the project control / PMO arena. Assignments over the past few years have included:

> Senior Planning Consultant (Planning Manager) for BT Leeds, delivering the Spine programme for the NHS National Program for IT (NPfIT).

> Senior PMO Consultant at Colt Technology Services, London, supporting a major business transformation programme.

> Senior Planning Consultant at ShiftPoint, Derby, supporting a multi-national infrastructure roll-out for Rolls-Royce aero engines.
